As a student he was interested in theater, poetry and literature. He learned his first lessons of politics from his music classes, which reflected the steep problems of that time. Although his father wanted to continue his family's musical tradition, he did not want to do it.

On a personal level, he was married in the early forty Padmavathi, but died in 1944. Four years later he married Dayalu Ammal, who had three children, MK Alagiri, MK Stalin, Thamizharasu and a girl, Selvi. He also had a daughter, Kanimozhi, of his friend Rajathi Ammal.

In parallel with his political debut, he began writing scripts for tamil films for the 20 years. In 1947 he obtained the awaited fame of "Rajakumari", which gives him an acceleration.

As a scriptwriter, he earned more than € 20 per month late 1940. He also wrote the script "Stop Shakti" in 1952, the first film Sivaji Ganeshan.

When Prime Minister Indira Gandhi asked for a "emergency situation" in India in 1975, the Karunanidhi government, like other state governments, was released from an office in 1976. In the 1977 elections, the AIADMK, under the leadership of the MGR, broke the DMK and remained in power until death in 1989, after the DMK capitalized and returned after a long period of 13 years.

During his political career for over 61 years, he never lost choice. The only time, when he had problems, was in 1991, after gaining the choice with an edge of only 890 voices.
