He began his career as a substitute for a professor at the Indian Institute for Film and Television in Pune; from where he was trained in action. He is a quarter-black belt in martial arts.
He wanted to become a villain in Indian movies. Although he was an experienced actor, his body was built and his appearance made him look like a villain. After a long fight, in 1983 he rolled in the Coolie of Amitabh Bachchan.
Due to the accident in the famous Coolie battle, no one was ready to work with Puneet, so he was without work again. He fought six years after this accident and worked in small roles in a few B films. Everyone thought he had intentionally beat Amitabh Bachchan.

In 1988 he played the role of Duryodhana in the epic series "Mahabharata", with which he set himself up as an actor in the Indian television and Chinese industry.
