He later became interested in theater and joined the "National Theater School" to follow theater studies. Before he came to Mumbai, Alok Nath was an active theater artist in Delhi. 

Until 1986 he only played small, incomplete roles in Films. His lack of work and money led him to play in 'Buniyad of 1986, in which he plays the character of an old man when he was only twenty.

He was thanked for his work Buniyad, which led to more film proposals for fathers as well as for the role of age.Alok Nath acted as the father of the actors who were younger to him equal to their age and almost twice as of their age.

Alok Nath wanted to become a movie star. But he was seized on the picture and played the role of a father in the film. He wanted to break the stereotype. He made a film Kamagni 1987 as the protagonist with Tina Munim Ambani. But the film could not make its picture well and it was a great flop.

Alok Nath played Amitabh Bachchan's father in Agneepath in 1990, when Amitabh Bachchan was 48 years old and only 34 years old.Alok Nath had never refused to play the role of a father when he was invited to play the father Jeetendra.
