According to custom, the priest randomly opened the holy guru Granth Sahib. The first word on the page started with "M" and the baby called "Manmohan". his father, Gurmukh Singh, was a commissioner, which imported dry fruit from Afghanistan for delivery in India.

He was first admitted to a village school in Gah, Peshawar; where his role is not. It was 187. The name of the professor was Daulat Ram. According to sources, Singh's father would usually stay outside of the city and rarely visit Gah.
