His father was a Jain while his mother was Muslim. She is a godly follower of Sai-Baba. As her only daughter's daughter she was the pivot in her parents' lives. His mother, Sudha Parekh, wrote her in very young Baltic classes. It began to happen very soon.

She started her film career as a child artist with the film "Aasmaan" from 1952, in which she called Baby Asha Parekh. During a spectacle, Bimal Roy saw her dance and showed her at the age of twelve in the film "Baap Beti" from 1954.
